“Great Firewall” Erected By Chinese State Council

Human Rights | International | Privacy
China’s State Council handed down its new restrictions this week aimed at regulating “unhealthy content” such as pornography and anti-government sites on the internet. According to the Beijing News, the new rules were issued directly in response to the rising number of citizens using the internet to protest government corruption, land requisition policies, police brutality and an assortment of civil rights issues. All ISPs and internet cafes must now re-register their news sites and monitor them for any content that may “endanger state security” and “social order.”
